Outreach/Evangelism Ministries Committee

The Outreach Ministries Committee leads activities to support the "Go!" portion of the CELC mission statement (”We GO - to SERVE others, to SHARE the Gospel and Ourselves, to LOVE, to INVITE.”). Our official responsibilities are to:

1.Provide and maintain a system for identifying, welcoming, and obtaining the names and addresses of nonmembers who attend worship services of the congregation; provide for follow-up contacts to thank them for participation, obtain feedback on their experience at worship, and ascertain ways the congregation might serve them further.
2.Provide a system for making scheduled follow-up contacts with people who are identified as inactive members of the congregation.
3.Identify populations in the congregation's community (and the world) that should be targeted for outreach efforts, develop specific strategies to assist these populations as appropriate to our abilities and to communicate with and invite these people to participate in our congregation's ministry.
4.Ensure that the work, events, and special services of the congregation be regularly advertised and promoted in the community.

While the committee has been meeting since 2011, outreach at CELC has a much longer history. Outreach ministries active for many years include:

1. mentoring at Oakwood Elementary;
2.spreading the gospel at St. Dismas Prison Ministry;
3.supporting gifts for less fortunate children through the Christmas Angel Tree;
4. providing personal staples (toothbrushes, shaving supplies, soap, etc.) to seamen through the Seafarers’ Project;
5. providing clothing donations to Lutheran Mission Society (picked up on the 1st Wednesday of each month);
6.CELC website
Outreach activities started since 2011 when the committee was organized:

1.Annual Chili Cook-off to fund raise for Veterans
2.Multi-year fundraisers in support of the ELCA World Malaria Campaign to eliminate malaria worldwide
